Dr. T.K. Viswanathan is a Padma Shri Awardee. He is the former Secretary General of the Lok Sabha and has four decades of distinguished career, where he served as a Lawyer, Professor, Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Law & Justice and Chairman of various committees. He has played crucial role in the drafting of important legislations like the Information Technology Act 2000, the Competition Act 2002 and the Right to Information Act 2005. He is a holder of a Masters’ degree in Jurisprudence from Madras University. Dr. Viswanathan brings with him rich legal experience, having been a Professor at the Madras Law College and Member-Secretaryof the Law Commission of India from 2003 to 2006.

Dr. Viswanathan was a consultant to Shri Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India and is presently the director in the Pranab Mukherjee Foundation. He was also the Chairman of the Expert Committee to review the Cyber Laws and the Information Technology Act 2000.

He is the key architect of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code as the Chairman of the Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee constituted in the year 2014 and contributed to the drafting of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016. He served as Secretary to the Union Government from April 2000 to October 2003. He was Secretary of the Legislative Department, from April 2006 to October 2009. Dr. Vishwanathan is a member of the Independent Review Authority constituted under Section 45(2) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 and Chairman of SEBI’s Fair Market Committee.
