insolvency law academy interNational Short Story (Insolvency and Bankruptcy) Contest-2023

OBJECTIVE OF THE CONTEST

Literature is a powerful medium to sensitise people and build awareness. Stories in particular are impactful that leave a deep and long-lasting impression on the reader. They bring forth invaluable data based on real time experiences and observations or popular perceptions about insolvency.  They have a longer shelf life and recall value.

Insolvency Law Academy announces the 2nd Edition of ILA Short Story (Insolvency and Bankruptcy) Contest, to be organised in collaboration with the ILA’s Emerging Scholars Group.  By way of this Contest, ILA-ESG invite short stories from the public on bankruptcy of natural persons due to household debt distress, credit card defaults or other reasons. The submissions are required to be made in accordance with the Guidelines for Participation and Submissions.

While promoting the much needed conversation on individual insolvency and help to create awareness about the benefits of insolvency and bankruptcy law, the Contest will gather resource material for ESG to study the notion of stigma and other negative notions that often serve as an impediment in use of insolvency law.

FOCUS AREAS

I got pulled into restructuring practice at the age of 28, thanks to ICICI Bank Limited, then ICICI. My exposure to insolvency systems outside of India began in 1997, when the Late Shri Arun Jaitley, the then Minister of Law and Justice of the Government of India, invited me to join INSOL India as its founding secretary. One thing led to another, and soon, I was selected by INSOL International to serve as a nominee director on its Board. I had the distinction of serving on the INSOL International Board for 10 years, including as its Vice President and President (as the youngest and the first Asian to head the organisation).
